" Sorry to come off as a skeptic, but I'm guessing Bills fans didn't exactly bolt off the couch to purchase their season tickets when they heard that Trent Edwards had a 50-50 chance to be the starting quarterback next season.

How do they sell Edwards at this point? What's the new marketing cry? "The Third Time's a Charm?" "Check out Capt. Checkdown?" "Better than a Convicted Dog Fighter?" Edwards has failed twice as the QB. Perry Fewell had seven games to prove himself as a head coach and decided Ryan Fitzpatrick gave him a better chance to win.

Edwards is finished in this town. He lost his confidence, his job, and the faith of his teammates and coaches last season. He's reluctant to throw downfield. He gets hurt too often. He should be the last option for the new regime.

I'd rather see the Bills draft a rookie and let him take his lumps. Gailey could give Brian Brohm a shot. If Gailey wants a proven veteran, he can trade for one, or give Fitzpatrick the job. "Fitz" is a mediocrity, but he outplayed Edwards last year. That's why the idea of giving the job back to Edwards is so outlandish.

Edwards is entering the final year of his original four-year contract. If there's no new NFL labor deal, he'll be a restricted free agent after the season. The Bills would control his rights. That's no reason to invest unwarranted faith in him. "
