Dunn supplies his own fireworks in Sox's victory

"Adam Dunn said he honestly didn't know if his high drive in the eighth inning Monday was going to clear the fence for the simple fact that he hadn't hit one since June 12 against Oakland.

"I hadn't hit one in so long I almost forgot," Dunn said. "Seriously. I know it hit it on the barrel and hit it straight up. But I'm just glad there was little wind that blew it out."

Dunn's home run, which moved him ahead of Joe DiMaggio for sole possession of 72nd place on the all-time home run list with 362, highlighted his eventful night as the Chicago White Sox rallied for a 5-4 win over the Kansas City Royals.

Dunn's day began with his final early batting practice session against minor league pitchers Garrett Johnson and Stephen Sauer in which he didn't look overly impressive, with the exception of a home run that landed 10 runs up in the bleachers to the left of center field.

The boos returned after he struck out for the 105th time in the first inning against Jeff Francis.

But the boos turned to a standing ovation after Dunn hit a single in the fourth inning off Francis to snap an 0-for-19 slump. Dunn has only two hits in 56 at-bats against left-handers (.036).

In response to the ovation, Dunn tipped his helmet to the crowd but was even more appreciative after they cheered him until he came out of the dugout following his home run."
