Ducks heap praise on Hiller

"Toni Lydman referred to teammate Jonas Hiller as the "final frontier" after the goalie stole a 2-1 victory for the Ducks over the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday night, but it was just the latest example of a player who's on his game of late.

Hiller makes 39 saves against the Blackhawks and has stopped all but four of the 109 shots he has faced in the Ducks' current three-game winning streak. But the Swiss netminder has a larger sample size that displays his strong work.

Since Dec. 5, Hiller has gone 8-3-1 with a 1.79 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage in his past 13 appearances.

"I feel pretty comfortable with the way I'm playing," he said. "I kind of knew I had to play a little better to give the team a little better chance to win. That's what I'm trying to do."

Hiller's most critical performance of the season came Sunday as he stopped all 19 shots he faced in the third period and made remarkable saves on Chicago's Jack Skille and Dave Bolland.

"That's a big confidence builder from the bottom up," Lydman said. "We were kind of scrambling in the end. We knew they were going to put a lot of pressure, being a one-goal game and time running out."
