We’re watching the greatest kicker of all time, and we’re watching him get better. Even at age 43, Adam Vinatieri is getting better.

Vinatieri kicked five more field goals on Sunday, including blasts of 53 and 54 yards, to lead the Indianapolis Colts past Chicago 29-23. And he is leading this team. Crazy as that sounds, the Colts are led by their kicker. They rarely have the better offense on the field and never the better defense, but they always win the special teams battle.

How far can a team go when its biggest edge is special teams? We’ll find out this season. Matt Overton is a Pro Bowl long snapper, Pat McAfee is as good as it gets on punts – he launched bombs of 74 and 66 yards on Sunday – and Adam Vinatieri is simply the best there ever was.
