Dolphins know Favre just arm's length away

"Maybe Brett Favre to the Miami Dolphins is a moot point.

Probably not, though.

I know. I know. Brett Favre's agent went public Friday, telling ESPN, "Brett Favre's retired."

He might as well have added that the check is in the mail, it's not about money and, well, fill in your own favorite faux phrase here. After all, Favre's agent went so far as to compare his client's current retirement to Elvis Presley's death. Or non-death.

"He's like Elvis now," said the agent, Gus Bell. "People just won't let it go."

People?

Or Brett Favre?

Probably both.

Remember, Favre retired from the Green Bay Packers in 2008, only to play for the New York Jets. Favre then retired from the Jets in 2009, only to play for the Minnesota Vikings. Favre then retired from the Vikings in 2010, only to come back and play one more year with them.

Now he's (cough, cough) retired again.

Meanwhile, down in Miami, the Dolphins seem desperate to find someone, anyone -- anyone, that is, other than Chad Henne -- to play quarterback for them.

Which raises the question:

Brett Favre?

That was exactly the question Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano was asked in a news media session Thursday. Rather than adroitly tap-dancing around that notion, Sparano all but embraced it.

"I can't rule anything out, OK?" he said. "So, I mean, we don't rule anything out. I don't know how you want me to answer that. That'll be all over the news . . .""
