Offensive coordinator Mike Sherman has been relieved of his duties, the Dolphins announced Monday.

“I would like to thank Mike for his contributions to the Miami Dolphins," coach Joe Philbin said in statement. "Mike has been a mentor to me throughout my coaching career, dating back to 1979. He is a man of great integrity, dedicated to his family, his team, his players and his profession. On behalf of the entire Miami Dolphins organization I want to wish Mike and his family the very best in the future.”

The news comes five days after owner Stephen Ross was reportedly mulling a staff shakeup after the team lost its final two games.

Heading into Week 16, the Dolphins were 8-6 after back-to-back wins against the Steelers and the Patriots. With two regular-season games to go and in control of their postseason fates, the Dolphins were blanked by the Bills, 19-0, and manhandled by the Jets, 20-7.
