Dolphins can void Joey Porter's contract when labor agreement expires

"The Dolphins took care of a couple of minor housekeeping issues Wednesday leading up to a major one: The departure of Joey Porter.

Once the labor agreement between NFL owners and players expires at midnight Thursday - rendering 2010 an uncapped year - Miami can get back to what it tried to do three weeks ago: voiding the remaining two years on Porter's contract. While that produces a $4.8 million cap hit, it also frees up $5 million for this season that won't be paid to the former All-Pro linebacker.

While this season is uncapped, the Dolphins have given no indication of their spending plans.

The Dolphins did tender two of their three restricted free agents, running back Ronnie Brown and tight end Anthony Fasano.

Brown was tendered at 110 percent of his 2009 salary, or $3.97 million . The Dolphins would get a first-round pick if another team signs him and Miami chooses not to match.

Fasano, who had a disappointing 2009 season, was tendered at $1.18 million . Miami would get a second-round pick if he were to sign elsewhere."
