"The surprise star for the Giants in this Super Bowl does not have to catch a desperation pass up against his helmet to be the next David Tyree. But wouldn't it be perfect if he did?

"I made one like that in college," says Jerrel Jernigan, who — like Tyree — is a little-used receiver for this team.

Reeeaaally. Do tell.

"I was playing for Troy against Florida Atlantic, my sophomore year," he explains. "I was running an out-route to the sideline and caught the ball with one hand on my helmet."

Did you make the cover of Sports Illustrated, too? Did you get a book deal to tell your story and become an instant star?

"Nah, nothing like that," he laughs. "But you can see it on YouTube. People in the stands were like, 'Oh my God, he didn't just do that?' It was no big deal like David Tyree.

"I mean, it wasn't like I was playing in the Super Bowl or anything."

Jernigan is playing in the Super Bowl now. There is a chance he might not step onto the field, of course. Jernigan is a rookie. He does not have a single catch this season, pitching in mostly on special teams. He is living in the NFL margins, waiting for his chance to make an impact for the first time as a pro. "
