Unlike all the “F-bombs” being thrown around during the third episode of 24/7, the first letter in the name “Phaneuf” does not start with the letter “F.”

But the word “F-ortune” does.

And, thanks in part to HBO’s behind the scenes cameras and microphones, this weekend’s edition of 24/7 verified what everyone in Toronto suspected already: that Phaneuf is on the verge of collecting his own personal “fortune” courtesy of the Maple Leafs.

The Phaneuf contract talks, believed to be centred on a seven-year $49-million US pact, were outlined during a phone conversation between assistant general manager Claude Loiselle and GM Dave Nonis that was captured by HBO on a show that aired this weekend.
