"Kirk Gibson said he was honored to be named the National League Manager of the Year on Wednesday, and though he now has another thing in common with two of his managerial idols, Sparky Anderson and Jim Leyland, they have one accomplishment he still wants.
"I still want to win a World Series as a manager," Gibson said on a conference call Wednesday, the day it was announced he had received 28 of 32 first-place votes from the Baseball Writers Association of America.
The Milwaukee Brewers' Ron Roenicke (three first-place votes) and the World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals' Tony La Russa (one first-place vote) were second and third, respectively."
