"The predictions about Dexter Fowler are striking, eloquently explaining the Rockies' depth. First, ESPN announcer Jon Miller said Fowler will be an all-star this season. Saturday, White Sox outfielder Andruw Jones pegged the kid for a Rawlings Gold Glove.

"He's going to win one someday. Maybe even soon," Jones said at Hi Corbett Field. "He's really smooth. When you want to know what kind of athlete someone is, watch the way they run. And he's so smooth."

Jones has become Fowler's Yoda, the two hitting it off after working out over the winter. Agent Scott Boras paired the two clients, specifically asking Jones to let Fowler pick his brain. When Jones says Fowler will go Gold, it carries weight. Jones won the honor 10 straight times beginning in 1998 and is considered by some the best center fielder since Joe DiMaggio.

"We shagged flyballs together. And I saw nothing but positive stuff in the way he reads the ball off the bat," Jones said. "He's going to be really good. I tell him he needs to play with a chip on his shoulder. It's not to be cocky, but you have to want to be in that lineup every day."

Fowler also helped Jones, whose weight loss makes him unrecognizable to the player he was with the Dodgers two years ago. Jones has been impressive this spring, hitting .325 as he's earmarked for center field and DH duty this season.
