"Making room for a rookie center such as Adam Henrique or Brad Mills, Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello last night traded 29-year-old center David Steckel to the Maple Leafs for a fourth-round 2012 draft pick.

New Jersey will save $1.1 million in salary this season and next on Steckel. The Devils acquired him and a 2012 second-rounder from the Caps for Jason Arnott on Feb. 28, after acquiring Arnott from Nashville for Matt Halischuk and a second-rounder June 19, 2010.

Steckel is perhaps best known for his hit to the head of Pittsburgh star Sidney Crosby in the Winter Classic on Jan. 1. Crosby absorbed another hit in a game four days later and hasn't played since then."
