The off-season passed quickly for defenseman Danny DeKeyser.

“It went quick but it was a good summer” DeKeyser said after practicing Friday at Joe Louis Arena.

The season ended for the Red Wings in late May after losing to the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round of the playoffs. DeKeyser who had broken his right thumb against the Ducks came back to help the Grand Rapids Griffins win the Calder Cup in the American Hockey League in mid-June.

While many of the Griffins got a chance to celebrate with the Calder Cup for a day DeKeyser missed out. On the day he was scheduled to have it he was in Florida on vacation.

“I never got a chance to pick it up” DeKeyser said. “I was a little disappointed.

“It’s always fun to win especially when you’re joining a team late in the playoffs. It doesn’t happen too often like that. It was an awesome experience.”

DeKeyser also was invited to USA Hockey’s Olympic orientation camp last month.

DeKeyser 23 is now preparing for his first full season in the NHL.
