Astros righthander Jarred Cosart was admittedly not at his best Wednesday in the 9-3 victory over the Royals, but he was good enough to capitalize on the run support at Kauffman Stadium.

“Timing is everything, you know,” Cosart (4-4) joked after holding the Royals to four hits and two runs (one earned) with two walks and one strikeout over five innings. “I guess I chose a good day to go five. Our offense scored five runs.

“I didn’t have my best stuff, so we move on to my next start. Like I said, the offense came out and scored early. I felt pretty good up there. I was trying to attack the strike zone and not make too long (of a) strenuous game.”

Cosart threw 55 of his 95 pitches for strikes. The high pitch count prompted Bo Porter to pull him before the sixth.
