His absence from the Tigers lineup for Saturday's and Sunday's games is ominous, but Victor Martinez insisted Saturday that all is well with his recovering left knee.

"Everything's perfect," the Tigers designated hitter said Saturday morning in the Tigers clubhouse.

Martinez was removed from Friday's game against the Mets at Port St. Lucie after it appeared he grimaced on a swing and miss during his second at-bat.

He was not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Pirates at Joker Marchant Stadium. Nor did he make the trip to Tampa for the Tigers' split-squad game against the Yankees.

It is more puzzling that a 34-year-old hitter whom the Tigers have been attempting to get as many at-bats as possible during Grapefruit League games is not scheduled to make Sunday's trip to Disney World for Detroit's game against the Braves.
