After a week off because of the all-star break, the Maple Leafs are well-rested heading into their game on Tuesday night at the ACC against the Florida Panthers (22-22-5). They are also desperate.

With just 33 games remaining in their regular season, Toronto (19-25-5) finds itself 14 points out of a playoff spot and in a must-win situation almost every night.

Last season, the team made a major trade on Jan. 31 to shake things up, bringing in now captain Dion Phaneuf as well as Fredrik Sjostrom while also dumping a lot of dead wood. With no such trade immediately on the horizon, the Leafs say they plan to take it one game at a time as they try to fight their way into playoff contention – though, realistically, that is a goal that is unlikely to be achieved.
