"In the Mark Cuban era, the Mavs have never once had any cap room, let alone the sort of cap room needed to make a significant free agent acquisition.
The Mavs seem intent on changing that, even if it means letting a few of their own key players leave.
With a slew of contracts set to expire at the end of the season, the Mavericks could potentially be far enough under the NBA salary cap to make a run at one of the big-name free agents -- Chris Paul, Dwight Howard or Deron Williams -- that could hit the market. In order to do that, they might have to let their own free agents like Tyson Chandler and J.J. Barea go elsewhere.
But that trio of big free agents next year could really be more like a duo, because Deron Williams -- who's currently playing for the Nets -- doesn't seem to think he's going anywhere."
