"As expected, Derek Jeter was out of the Yankees' lineup for tonight's series opener against the Chicago White Sox, one day after taking a pitch off the knuckle of his right middle finger. But he is expected to return to the lineup on Tuesday night.
"Actually, a day will help," Jeter said today. "But I can play."
Jeter admitted that he still had soreness in the area, though he said "it's not an issue."
The Yankees shortstop is listed as day-to-day with a bruised middle finger, the same one he jammed while fielding a grounder on Saturday. Jeter had trouble gripping the baseball, prompting Yankees manager Joe Girardi to pull him from the game on Sunday."
