"Yankees captain Derek Jeter was pulled for a pinch hitter during the fourth inning of today's game against the Orioles. No official reason has been given by the club, though in the third inning, Jeter took a Jake Arrieta pitch off the middle finger of his right hand.

Jeter is day to day with a bruised right hand. X-Rays were negative.

Initially, Jeter was checked out by head athletic trainer Gene Monahan before remaining in the game. Jeter played defense in the top of the fourth but was oulled for a pinch-hitter when his spot came up in the order in the fourth inning. Francisco Cervelli struck for Jeter and remained in the game to play second base, his first career appearance in taht position. Eduardo Nunez moved to shortstop."
