Delhomme in, Quinn likely out

"Browns president Mike Holmgren may have been an NFL coach for 23 years, but he knows a little something about the full-court press.

Holmgren appeared determined to find an experienced starting quarterback to run the Browns' new West Coast offense and sounded convinced that ex-Carolina Panther Jake Delhomme was the one he wanted. So Holmgren wooed Delhomme so strongly that Delhomme never made his scheduled visit to New Orleans on Friday and Saturday, according to a league source.

On Saturday evening, 11-year veteran Delhomme agreed to terms of a two-year contract with the Browns, the source said. Terms were not disclosed.

The Browns do not announce deals until a contract is signed and had no comment.

Delhomme, 35, was released by the Panthers on March 4, despite being owed $12.68 million in guaranteed money. He compiled a 58-40 record as a starter for seven seasons with the Panthers.

The arrival of Delhomme likely signals the end of Brady Quinn's career with the Browns. A trade now looms for the former Notre Dame star selected 22nd overall in 2007. Holmgren told Cleveland.com on Friday that Quinn's future depended on whether the Browns could find another quarterback.

They already acquired seven-year veteran Seneca Wallace in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks on Monday for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2011 and released Derek Anderson Tuesday."
