With the two players who defined their defensive excellence for over a decade in the house at M&T Bank Stadium -- one wearing a suit and the other wearing a Houston Texans uniform -- the Ravens authored a performance that would have made their defenses of yesteryear proud.

Holding a second straight opponent without a touchdown while getting a defensive score the Ravens steamrolled the Texans 30-9 in front of an announced 71168.

The Ravens celebrated the career of Ray Lewis by inducting him into the Ring of Honor at halftime. Texans safety Ed Reed’s return to Baltimore after an 11-year career was greeted by a chorus of "REEEEEED" when he first took the field.

Reed was no factor while Lewis’ replacement Daryl Smith returned an interception from the Texans' Matt Schaub for a 37-yard touchdown in the second quarter to give the Ravens a lead they’d never relinquish.

The Ravens (2-1) also got an 82-yard punt return touchdown from Tandon Doss and a 1-yard touchdown run from Bernard Pierce who rushed for 65 yards on 24 carries in place of an injured Ray Rice. Justin Tucker was also 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts for the Ravens who scored 30 of the game’s last 33 points.

On defense the Ravens had three sacks seven quarterback hits nine tackles for losses and one defensive touchdowns. Schaub was 25-for-35 for 194 yards and no touchdowns.

The Ravens had only 65 yards of total offense at halftime. They had only four first downs and they were just 2-of-7 on third down conversions. Flacco had seven total completions one fewer than the Ravens had penalties. All told the eight penalties cost them 77 total yards.

But when they went into the locker room at halftime they led 17-9 thanks to their defense and special teams.
