USD’s Johnny Dee was named the West Conference Player of the Week today. The junior out of Rancho Buena Vista High averaged 23.5 points, 3 rebounds and 2.5 steals in games against Gonzaga and Portland.

Dee shot 75 percent from the field (15 of 20), hit all seven of his 3s and was 10 for 10 from the free throw line. Dee has hit 47 consecutive free throws.

Dee ranks fourth in the nation in free throw percentage, 93.5 (72 of 77). In WCC play, he’s the conference’s most accurate 3-point shooter, 25 of 40, 62.5 percent.

Toreros head coach Bill Grier believes self-confidence plays a major role in Dee’s shooting skills.
