It made sense, actually, because if there's a new CBA signed by next year, Williams will become an unrestricted free agent and the Panthers already have running back Jonathan Stewart, who blossomed last season.

The Lions, though, never made the phone call and they saved themselves the toll charge. The Panthers have no interest in trading Williams."
