"At least the Indianapolis Colts didn't get shut out of the Pro Bowl.
Despite a humbling 2-13 season and his lowest sack total since 2007, defensive end Dwight Freeney was the Colts' lone selection in Pro Bowl balloting, announced Tuesday night on NFL Network and NFL.com.
The 10th-year pro earned his seventh trip to Hawaii, although his 71/2 sacks are second on the Colts to defensive end Robert Mathis, who has 81/2. Mathis made his third trip last season.
"It is always an honor to be selected to the Pro Bowl by the fans and your peers," Freeney said in a team release. "No matter how many times you get picked, it is always special and something that I will always cherish.
"This is something that is not just a personal goal, but an achievement for this team. You do not get there by yourself, and it is a credit to my teammates and coaches. I want to thank all of the fans and fellow players who selected me and all of my coaches and teammates who have made this possible."
Freeney is the Colts' all-time leader in sacks with 1011/2. He became just the 26th player in NFL history to reach the career century mark with a two-sack game at Baltimore on Dec. 11."
