"It has been a long, long five months since the Cavaliers won consecutive games -- so long that coach Byron Scott doesn't even remember it.

"I do remember Jersey was involved in it ... and I can't remember who else," Scott said after the Cavs outlasted Toronto, 104-96, on Wednesday night at Air Canada Centre for their second straight victory since Nov. 6-9. "Washington and Philly? Something like that.

"That shows how long it has been."

The last consecutive victories did come at Washington and at New Jersey as part of a season-high three-game winning streak that started Nov. 5 at Philadelphia. A lot has happened since then -- most of it bad. But Scott would rather look ahead than back as his team won for the fourth time in its last eight games to improve to 17-61.

"I would have hoped it would have happened a lot sooner," said Scott, who has been through a lot of things he didn't expect this season. "It is what it is and you just take it as it comes."

The most notable addition to the team since then has been point guard Baron Davis, obtained with a first-round draft choice for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon on Feb. 24. J.J. Hickson had 28 points and 10 rebounds for the Cavs on Wednesday night, but it was Davis who led the Cavs with 19 points and 12 assists.

"I thought he was big down the stretch," Scott said. "I thought he was big to start the game. He really got us into our offense, got guys easy shots, easy buckets and that got us on a pretty good little roll offensively.

"Then in the second half, the fourth quarter, last five or six minutes, he kind of took it upon himself to make some plays and get the lead back up to double digits. That's what great players do." "
