David Wright plays shortstop for first time since high school as injuries force myriad Mets changes

"Kudos to anyone who attempted to keep a scorecard Sunday while watching the Mets' 6-5 loss to the Braves. Seriously, did you use pencil or ink?

Injuries to Jose Reyes and Daniel Murphy caused all sorts of chaos, with David Wright appearing at shortstop for the first time since high school and Terry Collins forced to make eight player moves in the eighth inning alone.

"Not like that," veteran Scott Hairston said when asked if he remembered a game with so many defensive moves. "It's very rare when two guys go down in your starting lineup and it happened to us. It's unfortunate. We just have to try now to keep the train going."

Wright, who last played shortstop at Hickory HS in Virginia, has spoken during his career about wanting to play the position at least once in the majors.

Just not like this, he said.

"It's a little over to my left, so it's not that big of an issue. The bad part is I shouldn't have been playing over there. It was just under the circumstances," Wright said. "It would've been great if we were up a ton of runs and I did it for fun."
