David Wright is a student of the game

"The 162-game season is, without doubt, a grind. With travel, film study, practice and games, players rarely get a chance to sit back, relax and observe the game.

In that sense, there was a silver lining to the back injury that kept David Wright off the field for more than two months.

"While I was out, I couldn't do a lot of physical work," said Wright prior to Wednesday's rainout. "It allowed me to be more of a student of the game. I was able to watch lots of baseball and figure out what a lot of the pitchers in the league were doing."

The study time has been a boon to Wright. Since he came off the disabled list on July 22, Wright is 20-for-51 with three doubles, two homers and 13 RBI. He has drastically lowered his strikeout rate. He has struck out six times in twelve games since returning after striking out 43 times in his first 39 games."
