David Wright expected to return to Mets shortly after All-Star break

"Finally, the light at the end of the tunnel for the injury-ravaged Mets isn't a speeding locomotive. It's actually a ray of hope in this snake-bitten season.

David Wright, on the disabled list since mid-May with a stress fracture in his lower back, underwent a CT scan on his back at the Hospital for Special Surgery today and the results were negative. He's scheduled to fly to Port St. Lucie, Fla., on Friday and begin rehab. No set date for his return has been announced, but it's expected to be shortly after the All-Star break.

"He was given the green light today to commence fuller baseball activity," general manager Sandy Alderson said after the Mets' 4-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics this afternoon at Citi Field. "Right now, I anticipate it's going to be at least a couple of weeks, maybe three weeks (before he's ready to return to the Mets), because he's going to have to exercise, progress to full baseball activity and then play in (minor-league) games.""
