David Garrard's concussion means early action for Trent Edwards

"The Jaguars' potential quarterback controversy began with a hit by Tennessee linebacker Will Witherspoon on starter David Garrard, forcing him out of Monday night's game at EverBank Field and bringing on Trent Edwards — who three weeks ago was being run out of Buffalo.

In an NFL season where quarterbacks are being knocked out by hard hits and pulled out by impatient coaches, why should the Jaguars be any different?

"It's the life of a quarterback in this league," Edwards said after the Jaguars' 30-3 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Although Edwards led the Jaguars to two drives deep into Titans territory among his first three possessions, tight end Marcedes Lewis fumbled to end one chance at the Tennessee 10 and the Jags to settle for a Josh Scobee field goal at the end of the other march.

It might have not mattered anyway as they Jaguars lost for the fifth time in eight home games to their main AFC South rival.

Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said team doctors told him Garrard might have a concussion when his head hit the ground on the tackle by Witherspoon. Garrard wasn't available for comment.

Garrard's performance was begging for a change anyway.

Before he left after getting hit by Witherspoon on an incomplete pass with 6:55 remaining in the second quarter, Garrard had completed 7-of-12 passes for only 49 yards and was intercepted by free safety Michael Griffin on a pass intended for Tiquan Underwood.

Garrard's passer rating was 33.0. The good work he had done in two consecutive victories was undone and after his condition was evaluated at halftime, the decision was made to let Edwards start the second half."
