David Garrard able to throw "just fine" after rehabbing hand for three months

"Never mind all the talk about the Jaguars needing to draft his possible replacement this year. Jaguars quarterback David Garrard isn't factoring that into his offseason plans.

"I know Gene and Jack are going to do their best to get the best players that they feel like this team needs," Garrard said. "I know I'm the starting quarterback for this team, so I'm going to continue to go out and prepare like that and work my butt off to make sure this team, this city wins a championship."

Garrard has spent the past three months rehabilitating his right hand, with which he says is able to throw "just fine," and spending time with his family.

Garrard and several of his teammates participated in a golf tournament at Timuquana Country Club on Monday afternoon. The event, organized by Jaguars punter Adam Podlesh, raised money to support cancer research in North Florida through the American Cancer Society and the David Garrard Foundation. Both Garrard and Podlesh's lives have been touched by cancer. Garrard's mother died of breast cancer and Podlesh was diagnosed with Acinic Cell Carcinoma last year. A tumor was surgically removed a year ago.

Garrard, Podlesh and Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee each participated in a punt, pass and kick competition after the golf tournament. Center Brad Meester and tight ends Zach Miller and Zach Potter also attended.

About this time of year, they would normally be preparing for offseason conditioning at the Jaguars facility. Locked out this spring, players are beginning to talk about gathering for group workouts, but will likely begin in a few weeks."
