David Garrard delivers knockout performance

"Jaguars quarterback coach Mike Shula joked with David Garrard on the sidelines Sunday.

"He said somebody should hit me this week so I go into the bye week with a concussion and come back ready to go again,'' Garrard said.

"I am going to ask that we not do that.''

Getting a concussion is not usually a good career move, but it certainly didn't hinder Garrard as he returned after sitting out a week and tied a franchise record with four touchdowns passes in a 35-17 victory over the Cowboys.

Still, Garrard, who suffered the injury two weeks ago against the Tennessee Titans and was in a fog for several days before being cleared to play last Monday, admitted he had some of the same questions the fans did.

"I had confidence in myself being able to stand there and deliver passes, but you never know when bullets are flying,'' he said. "So to be able to come out here and have one of the best games was awesome. I feel like I'm back and, hopefully, I don't knock myself out this week.''

Garrard said he was hit in the head a couple of times, but never felt foggy.

He also wanted to show he could have what amounted to his third solid complete game in a row.

He had passer ratings of 127.7 and 122.5 in wins over Indianapolis and Buffalo before being knocked out against Tennessee.

Since signing a $60 million contract extension in 2008, Garrard has lacked consistency. He has 12 games with ratings of over 100 and 11 with ratings under 65.

On Sunday, he was a half-point away from perfection with a quarterback rating of 157.8. He completed his first 12 passes and finished 17 of 21 for 260 yards.

"It was awesome day for us offensively. The offensive line did a great job,'' he said."
