As he begins to prep for his first spring as Texas’ head coach, Charlie Strong will be armed with the knowledge that the “incumbent” at the quarterback position will be a full, healthy go.

In tweets posted to its Twitter account Saturday night, the Longhorns revealed that David Ash has been cleared for offseason training. That clearance includes full participation in the 15 spring practice sessions that will commence in the next couple of months.

Ash missed most of the 2013 season due to a concussion suffered early on. After incurring the original injury Sept. 7, Ash returned two weeks later only to see the concussion symptoms recur. In late November, Ash was officially shut down for what little was left of the season.

Because of that, however, Ash will likely receive a medical redshirt, for which he’s already filed an appeal.
