"Lions quarterback Daunte Culpepper has politely avoided most interview requests during the preseason, but he talked to Sirius NFL Radio on Wednesday as afternoon hosts Vic Carucci and Gil Brandt visited Allen Park.

On the quarterback competition with rookie No. 1 pick Matthew Stafford: "The thing is, that's the NFL, that's how it goes, that's the business of it and I knew that it was a good chance that they were going to draft him. So, I look at it like this: At one point, I was a rookie coming into the league and we had veteran guys in front of me when I came in. So I look at it like it's all about this year, what we're going to do to be the best team this year in 2009. I'm going to do my part. Whatever that part is, that's the coach's decision, but I'm going to do my part to make sure that we can be as good as we can be this year.""
