Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish showed signs of rust in the opener as he returned from a nine-day layoff because of a stiff neck.

Darvish allowed three runs and nine hits in 62/3 innings. Before the neck ailment, which caused him to miss a start on Tuesday, Darvish allowed only eight hits in 23 innings in his previous three starts.

"I didn't feel that sharp, but I thought I did the best I could to give the team a chance to win," said Darvish, speaking through an interpreter. "Three days ago, I couldn't play catch at all. Under the circumstances, I thought I pitched okay."
