Baltimore Orioles third baseman Danny Valencia reiterated to reporters Wednesday he never has used performance-enhancing drugs and isn’t sure why his name appears on records from the now-closed Biogenesis clinic in the Miami area.

Last month, the Miami New Times published its findings from an investigation into that clinic and its chief, Anthony Bosch. In that report, the newspaper linked six active major leaguers to PED purchases and use.

“Basically, I’ve never had any contact with those people,” Valencia told reporters, according to The Baltimore Sun. “I’ve never met Tony Bosch, never seen him, never been to that clinic, never heard of that clinic until the New Times story first broke. That being said, I’ve never ever taken a PED in my life, never failed a drug test in my life and I never will.”

Valencia wasn’t among the names mentioned in the Miami New Times’ initial report on the connection between major leaguers and the Biogenesis clinic. However, Yahoo! Sports later reported that Valencia, Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun and New York Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli also were mentioned on records from the clinic.
