Statistician Sam Ventura has been added to the Penguins' full-time operations staff as the team's director of hockey research, the team announced Friday.

Ventura, 29, had previously served as a consultant for the team for the past two years. In his new role, he will work with newly-promoted assistant general manager Jason Karmanos to, according to a team release, "provid[e] a quantitative perspective on hockey operations decisions, including player acquisition and on-ice strategy."

Ventura is a Swissvale native and Woodland Hills High School graduate.
