"One more.
If the Rays had any theme to an uncharacteristically theme-less charter flight to Detroit on Sunday evening it could have been centered on those two words.
The road trip that seems like it began ages ago and included a tough start in Seattle, a historic sweep in Anaheim, a stomach virus passed around the clubhouse, rain delays and steamy weather in Baltimore, ends tonight with a makeup game against the Tigers.
It has been, what?
"Rough," Adam Russell said.
"A tester," Evan Longoria said.
And, with Sunday's eventful 9-6 victory against the Orioles at Camden Yards, it has been successful.
The Rays are 6-4 with one more game to play before finally returning to Tropicana Field to begin a three-game series Tuesday with the first-place Red Sox and that new left fielder of theirs.
"I know we can't wait to get home, sleep in our beds for five days and get back on the road," Johnny Damon said. "It's been one of the more grueling ones that I've been a part of all my years. Hopefully we can finish off the road trip with a win (tonight), get home and face a super-hot team."
Damon got things started Sunday with a leadoff home run, marking the 37th straight game he's reached base at least once, tying Ben Grieve's team record set in 2001.
The homer was the first of the Rays' 14 hits, which included three more singles from Justin Ruggiano, doubles from Casey Kotchman and Sean Rodriguez and an inside-the-park home run from Longoria in the eighth inning that scored Ben Zobrist and gave the Rays' bullpen a 9-5 cushion.
Longoria hit a knuckleball of a line drive directly at Orioles center fielder Adam Jones, who came in on the ball only to have it cut to his right and skip to the wall.
"When I hit it off the bat I knew I hit it pretty good," Longoria said. "Jones tracks everything down in center and he had his glove up and I thought he was going to catch the ball, so I was in between; I didn't know if he was deking and I was going to get a single. But as soon as I saw it take that left turn I just put my head down and ran.""
