Dabo Swinney led Clemson to wins over Alabama and Ohio State in the College Football Playoff last season as the Tigers captured their first national title since 1981.

Swinney was rewarded for Clemson’s success when the board of trustees approved his new contract Friday morning.

The 47-year-old has a new eight-year deal that will pay him $54 million, or an average of $6.75 million per season.

Swinney is now the third-highest paid coach in college football by average salary behind Nick Saban and Jim Harbaugh.
