It has been an open secret: Milan Hejduk is/was done playing in the NHL. The former Avalanche captain and one of the team’s best players in team history, Hejduk did not receive any concrete, guaranteed contract offers from any other teams following last season with the Avs.

In the Czech Republic newspaper Blesk, Hejduk said he is through and will make the announcement official soon.

Hejduk told the newspaper that he wanted to officially retire after the season, but his agent, Jiri Crha, told him to wait and see if anyone else was interested. So he did, but other than perhaps a tryout offer or two (I’m speculating on that), there was nothing guaranteed.
