"Lions fans have likely seen the last of quarterback Daunte Culpepper in Honolulu blue.
Signed in the middle of last season in hopes of bringing consistency to the quarterback position, Culpepper never won a game in 10 starts as Lions quarterback.
To say the season was tumultuous for Culpepper is a bit of an understatement.
He worked to lose nearly 40 pounds in the offseason in hopes of beating out top draft pick Matthew Stafford for the starting job. When that didn't happen, it was the beginning of the end for Culpepper in Detroit.
Culpepper turned standoffish with the media. He briefly refused to warm up before the Thanksgiving Day game against Green Bay, instead sulking on the bench when Stafford was named the starter before the game just four days after separating his non-throwing shoulder. Culpepper's bus ticket was ultimately signed when he was twice benched for third-string quarterback Drew Stanton.
"Life is going to throw haymakers at you sometimes. You just have to have a tough chin and bounce back and that's my mentality," Culpepper said after Sunday's 37-23 loss to the Chicago Bears in the season finale. "I'm going to move forward and see what happens now."
Culpepper played arguably his best game as a Lion against the Bears. But was his 23-of-34 passing for 262 yards and two touchdowns good enough to earn him a shot with another team next season?
"I feel like I'm healthy," he said. "I showed that. We are going to see how it goes but I'm optimistic about somebody seeing the player in me and seeing that I'm a guy that has what it takes to win.""
