"Michael Cuddyer signing with the Colorado Rockies could affect things for the Reds. But a couple other dominos have to fall first.
With Cuddyer in the fold, the Rockies may look to move Seth Smith. The Rockies, Tracy Ringolsby writes, would want a stating pitched for Smith. The Rockies and the Reds talked about Edinson Volquez during the winter meetings.
But the only way I see the Reds trading for Smith is if they trade Yonder Alonso first. Alonso is the best chip the Reds have to land a starting pitcher.
Smith, a left-handed hitter, hit .284/.347/.483 with 15 home runs and 59 RBI last year. His home/road splits aren't as huge as you'll find with some Rockies players. He hit .285 with nine home runs at Coors and .282 with six home runs on the road."
