Matt Garza's long shot bid at returning for the final two weeks of the season ended Tuesday when the Cubs moved him to the 60-day disabled list.

"If this is it, it's disappointing because I wanted to finish it off," he said. "I'd like to be the guy to step out there every five days and be known for that. A little hiccup, but come back stronger. … I've learned a lot from what I have to deal with right now."

Garza technically still could return Sept. 26 and make two starts, but manager Dale Sveum confirmed before Tuesday's game with the Brewers that the veteran starter will be shut down.
