Matt Garza was put on the 60-day disabled list Tuesday and despite the fact that he will be eligible to return with eight games remaining in the season, the Chicago Cubs will not use him again this year.

"He's shut down the rest of the season," manager Dale Svuem said. "We won't do anything there. The 60 days will be up because it's retroactive, but he's shut down."

Garza's move to the longer disabled list was done so the Cubs could open a spot for Chris Rusin to be added to the 40-man roster. Rusin was activated to the major league club Tuesday and was set to start against the Milwaukee Brewers.
