The Chicago Cubs claimed outfielder Thomas Neal off waivers from the New York Yankees on Monday. Neal 25 was playing for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders New York’s Triple-A affiliate.

Neal appeared in four games this season for the Yankees getting two hits in 11 at-bats. He played in nine games for the Cleveland Indians in 2012 after being drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2005.

The 6-2 220-pound Neal has a career .301 batting average with 170 doubles 70 home runs and 370 RBI in 701 minor league games covering eight seasons.

To make room for Neal on the 40-man roster the Cubs transferred pitcher Rafael Dolis to the 60-day disabled list. He’s been out since June 1 with a right forearm strain.
