First Period: Both teams came out with a pacey effort and delivered shots on goal and scoring chances. However, Dallas goalie Cristopher Nilstorp and San Jose goalie Antti Niemi kept everything out for a scoreless first. Niemi’s best save was on Derek Roy in tight, while Nilstorp stopped a puck kicked at the net by defenseman Stephane Robidas.

Second Period: The pace slowed, but the intensity increased. Joe Thornton and Jamie Benn had a spirited fight that brought the crowd into the game at the 8:21 mark, and Dallas then opened the scoring at the 19:02 mark. With Marc-Edouard Vlasic off for cross-checking, Jamie Benn found Jaromir Jagr open in front of the net, and Jagr deflected in his fifth goal of the season.
