Coyotes snap Sharks' three-game winning streak

"One Phoenix goal bounced off the stick of a Sharks defenseman. Another deflected off a skate into the San Jose net.

It was that kind of evening for the Sharks, whose three-game winning streak was snapped as the Coyotes defeated them 5-3 Saturday at Jobing.com Arena.

"Just a tough night," Sharks captain Joe Thornton said. "We outshot them and had our chances to win. But we had some fluke things happen, and we lose the game."

The Sharks did make it interesting in the final minute. Down 4-2, and after the Sharks had pulled goaltender Antti Niemi, Patrick Marleau slapped home a shot with 32.3 seconds remaining to bring San Jose within one goal.

But there would be no miracle comeback as the Coyotes sealed the victory with Radim Vrbata's empty-net goal in the final second.

"It was frustrating because there were a couple of goals that went off stuff and ended up in the back of the net," said Jamie McGinn, who scored one of the Sharks' goals. "I thought Nemo did a great job in the net. And we were getting pucks into the blue paint. We did everything right and still ended up on the losing end.""
