Cowboys want to get Felix Jones more involved in offense

"Felix Jones won't start, but the Dallas Cowboys will try to get him the ball more than they have so far.The Cowboys replaced Jones as their primary kick returner this season, with plans to give him a bigger role in the offense. So far, that hasn't happened.Jones, who averaged 10.3 touches per game last season, including kickoffs, has not had more than 10 touches a game this season. He has 22 carries for 88 yards and four catches for 38 yards."We can hand him the ball a little bit more, so we're going to try to do that," Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said. "...As long as we're effective, we want to see him carry the ball quite a bit."Owner Jerry Jones said on his radio show Tuesday that Felix Jones needs more carries."He's just too much of a threat, and that was our intention in preseason coming out, no matter whether he's getting a chance to be in the running game, but certainly in the passing game as well," Jerry Jones said on KRLD/105.3 FM. "I really look for you to see a lot more of Felix Jones."In the final six games of last season, Felix Jones had 77 touches for 569 yards. The Cowboys would like to see that kind of production from him this season."Just give him different opportunities, he'll make some big runs," offensive coordinator Jason Garrett said. "We got into some nickel-type situations last week where he made some good runs for us. He's a guy that's proven over the course of the last few years that he can run inside and make big plays and also run outside and make big plays."Spreading it aroundThe Cowboys have a lot of weapons, and Tony Romo is trying to use all of them. The Cowboys quarterback has gone to 10 receivers in his 88 completions."I feel very fortunate to be in the situation to have the guys that I do," Romo said in a conference call with reporters in Tennessee. "Get them the ball and let them go to work."Five Cowboys have double-digit receptions after three games, and four of them have more than 100 yards receiving."
