"You think you have issues with Jason Garrett's play calling? Imagine how Jason Witten must feel.
The Cowboys' five-time Pro Bowl tight end hasn't knocked Garrett publicly, but there are signs he's deeply disappointed his number hasn't been called much in the red zone.
In a season in which 13 NFL tight ends have at least five touchdown receptions, Witten has only one through 13 games.
"I don't have the answer," Witten said on his weekly radio show after the host asked him about it.
"I wish I did," Witten added. "It's very frustrating. ... Over the last (few) years, we've been able to use that weapon, being a big target. Some of it has been staying in (to block), some of it has been not getting those plays down there."
While Witten has been forgotten in the red zone, other teams have leaned on their "big target." San Francisco's Vernon Davis leads the tight ends with 11 TD catches. Indianapolis' Dallas Clark has 10 and Minnesota's Visanthe Shiancoe has nine.
In Philadelphia, Brent Celek has seven TDs. Chicago's Greg Olsen has six.
Witten entered this season with 25 career TDs. He had a career-high seven in 2007 and four last season. He's finished with only one score twice, including his rookie season in 2003. In every other season, he's had at least four TDs.
"You just have to stick with it, hoping you can help your team and take advantage of opportunities," said Witten, who has a team-high 77 catches.
Which brings us to tonight's game. To have a chance against the unbeaten Saints, the offense must make the most of each possession.
Dallas has 5,084 total yards, a franchise high through 13 games, yet ranks only 13th in the league in scoring with an average of 22.8 points. New Orleans has 5,539 total yards and averages a league-best 35.8 points."
