Cowboys enjoy plate of big plays

"While millions of Americans feasted on turkey and all the trimmings, the Dallas Cowboys got fat Thursday on big plays.

Tony Romo passed for two touchdowns, Miles Austin and Jason Witten topped 100 yards receiving, and the Cowboys snapped out of their offensive funk and prepped for another grueling December with a 24-7 clubbing of Oakland fueled by 10 plays of 20 or more yards.

Dallas (8-3) never trailed and led 17-0 at halftime, delighting a crowd of 83,489 that witnessed the team's first home win over Oakland (3-8) in four tries.

"This was a feel-good game for us," coach Wade Phillips said. "It gives us confidence. We played like we did during our (four-game) winning streak.

"Now, it doesn't guarantee anything. But I do think it's an indicator."

Dallas hasn't had a winning record after November since 1996, also the last season it won a playoff game. In the past 12 seasons, the Cowboys are 19-39 in December and January, including 0-5 in the playoffs.

But after winning two straight to maintain their grip on the NFC East, the Cowboys have momentum for a stretch run that includes three games against division foes (Giants, Redskins, Eagles) and two against division leaders (Chargers and Saints).

"Now we get the meat and potatoes," linebacker DeMarcus Ware said. "But I think we're ready."

First up is a Dec. 6 outing at New York, 33-31 winners over the Cowboys in Week 2. Since 2000, Dallas is 4-5 in the game after Thanksgiving Day.

"I know it will be something people will want to talk about, but December, November, September, October, it's all the same to us," Romo said. "I know it might be whatever it is to certain people, but it's all about improving each time you're out there. If you do that consistently, December will take care of itself.""
