Dallas Cowboys coaches said Tuesday they aren’t concerned with right tackle Doug Free’s mindset this off-season after he agreed last week to take a substantial pay cut to remain on the roster.

Free struggled the last two seasons but was scheduled to be the highest-paid right tackle in the league in 2013 before agreeing to a pay cut that will pay him half of the $7 million that was due to him.

Cowboys offensive line coach Bill Callahan said he didn’t feel the need to sit down with Free after the Cowboys renegotiated his contract last week.

“I’m really proud of the way Doug has handled everything that has transpired in the off-season,” Callahan said. “He’s been very positive, he’s been forthcoming, he’s been hard working and he’s not let the business side affect the playing side, which I think has been tremendous, so in that regard I just have the utmost respect. I’m proud of what he’s accomplished, to maintain his focus and still go out and practice and work and keep his focus as a pro just speaks volumes for me.

“He knows that I love him and I want him here and that I care about him.”

Free declined to comment Tuesday.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said that he’s “not at all” concerned about Free’s mindset afterDallasasked him to take a pay cut.

“He’s a veteran player. He’s been a good player for us on the left side and the right side and he’s got some position flex and he’s smart and he’s a leader,” Garrett said. “We just had to get the economics right for our football team and I think he understands that this is a good situation for him and we’re excited to have him back.”

Over the last month of last season, Free and Jermey Parnell split time at right tackle. That hasn’t changed. Free and Parnell alternated at right tackle Tuesday at Valley Ranch during the Cowboys’ first day of organized team activities.

First-round pick Travis Frederick lined up at first-team center for the Cowboys in team drills Tuesday, and David Arkin and Ronald Leary split time at right guard in place of starter Mackenzy Bernadeau, who is still recovering from off-season right shoulder surgery.
